All You Need To Know About That Dermal Roll Life

June 29, 2017

I have been taking part of a Skin journey with Caci Clinic for the last few months and today was my second appointment with what looks like a tiny little torture device, the Dermal Roller. While it looks like a tiny torture device covered in painful needles it’s more like a one-stop shop skin savor device for the skin. Why? It has a tonne of benefits, reduction in deeply pitted acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks, skin discoloration, collagen induction, pore shrinkage and enhanced product absorption. Sounds good right?

Full disclosure the first time I had this treatment it wasn’t pleasant at all. A topical anesthetic is applied to your face first, but my Auto-Immune disease makes me metabolise it super fast, plus I had my period which makes things much more sensitive in general. I was sitting there the whole time waiting for it to be over! Fast forward a few months and we left the local on much longer as well as massaged it into the skin and this time it was super easy having hundreds 1mm of needles rolled over my face!

How does it work?

Derma rolling works by creating microscopic “wounds” from 1-2mm length needles which trick your skin into thinking it has received some sort of trauma, this triggers it into overdrive to induce collagen and elastin production in that area. Hence Collagen Induction being another common name for the treatment. Your skin can make some serious transformation with the magic that is collagen. If you didn’t know, collagen is the most abundant protein found in the human body and is responsible for holding together connective tissue like skin, muscles, tendons, cartilage, and bones. Full results can be seen up to 3 months after your initial treatment.

What happens next?

Post procedure you look like you have done a massive workout or have gotten sunburnt. Your face looks red and you may have tiny spots of blood (I didn’t but some people do). For the day/night of the rolling you just leave the skin as is, but the next day you can resume your normal routine and wear makeup too. My skin looked totally fine the following day so there was no “down time” needed if you are worried about being in public with a weird looking face.

Want to boost your results?

You can get at home rollers (the needles are much shorter) that you can build up to using daily. I have been using one after I cleanse for the last few months and it’s not painful as the needles are much shorter. Just feels like lots of tiny pricks and it totally manageable.

Who should look into this?

The team at Caci say this treatment is the most effective for people with acne scarring. So if that’s you this treatment may be the one you have been looking for, but as above there are a number of concerns Dermal Rolling can help with. Consultations at Caci at free, so there is no harm in booking in with them to discuss your skin concerns to see what they can do to help.

I haven’t really shared my bald head with the sun for years for many reasons; not wanting strangers to feel uncomfortable (weird, I know) and the habit of putting my wig on first thing and not taking it off till night. I burnt my head modelling bald when I was 17 and it was beyond painful, I made the same mistake this year sailing in Spain.
At 33 I have stopped caring about how I make other people feel with my baldness and have been rocking the look. While I love some Vit D, I need to protect my skin and scalp from the sun's harmful rays (especially in this part of the world). Enter @snowberrybeautynz, they introduced me to their broad spectrum SPF 30 made with zinc oxide and a blend of NZ botanicals, and I love it. It goes on easy (some zincs I have found so hard to rub in), it’s lightweight, non greasy (important if my wig is going to go over it at some point), coral friendly and 100% free from any nasties. #SnowberrySkincare - my best defence this summer! #ProudlySponsored #BoostedByScience
